Community radio stations could reduce human rights ignorance

Posted Oct 28, 2009

Community radio stations could significantly reduce ignorance and help clear misunderstanding on human rights, said Chief Information, Education and Training, Mr. Samuel Kasankha at human rights training workshops attended by over 40 community radio personnel in Livingstone and Ndola.

He told participants that HRC had organized the training workshops in an attempt to educate people on human rights using community radio stations because of their several advantages.

Community radio is more accessible by the poor than telephones, internet or other media and experts say it is an important factor in the efforts of the poor to escape from poverty as it enables them the opportunity to access information, to make their voices heard, to receive news and engage in policy dialogue.

Following the human rights training held for community radio personnel in Livingstone and Ndola, HRC has created a blog (http://rightsinzambia.blogspot.com) for journalists to share their human rights stories and experiences in dealing with local communities.
