On a recent trip to Isoka and Luwingu districts, Kasama Human Rights Office working in partnership with Anti-Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) found most people unaware of the importance of obtaining a National Registration Card (NRC).
Human Rights Commission Investigations Officer Mr. Kebby Malila, who is also provincial head for Kasama Office expressed concern at the situation saying it could have real negative impact on people’s enjoyment of their right to vote.
He said: “Without an NRC, one cannot exercise their democratic right to vote.”
Together, Kasama Office and AVAP embarked on a sensitization programme to educate people about their right to vote and the importance of obtaining an NRC.
“Every Zambian is entitled to a nationality, an NRC identifies your nationality,” was the core message of the sensitization programme.
The sensitization programme was sponsored by AVAP in partnership with Kasama Human Rights Office.
