A training workshop for Human Rights Commission staff was conducted in Lusaka from 22nd to 24th December 2009 by the Department of Research and Planning to familiarize them with the concept of Annual State of Human Rights (ASHR) report and the issues around it.
The Human Rights Commission, according to Chief Research and Planning Mrs. Hope Chanda, is intent on producing on its own the ASHR report having built the necessary capacity through the production of the first two reports.
She ASHR said staff training was conducted to further develop the capacity of the Commission to produce the report.
“Access to adequate housing and land in Zambia is the focus of the next [2009] report,” she said.
She called for dedication by all members of the HRC research team that was trained saying “ours is the noble cause that we have to champion every day.”
“Sometimes the work is more than the reward, but the ultimate result is everything that should drive us in our work to promote and protect human rights,” she added.
